5 Stellar Podcasts for Mystery Lovers (that are NOT true crime!)

Podcasts are my favorite! I love podcasts and listen to a wide variety of them on a regular basis. If you haven’t noticed, true crime podcasts are by far the most popular and if you try searching for “mystery podcasts” on any podcast platform, you’re sure to be confronted with a lengthy list of true crime podcasts. The algorithm knows what you really want, after all.

I got sucked into the true crime podcasts for a little while, but eventually decided that filling my mind with real life murder on the regular wasn’t healthy (plus, the unsolved ones make me crazy!) and I wanted to listen to things that don’t make me wonder when and how exactly I’m going to get kidnapped and killed on that more isolated part of my morning walking trail.

I knew there had to be some podcasts out there that would scratch my mystery-loving itch and I set out to find them! Without further ado, I have gathered up a handful of what I’ve found to be the best podcasts for mystery lovers that are NOT true crime.

5 Great Podcasts for Mystery Lovers

Shedunnit

I’m starting with Shedunnit because it’s my favorite! Host Caroline Crampton has the nicest British accent and I could listen to her talk all day. She talks about all kinds of things from a literary perspective about the Golden Age of Detective Fiction. Author interviews and historical facts about your favorite mystery writers are always entertaining to an Agatha Christie enthusiast. You can also join the Shedunnit book club for extra content and to hear Caroline read mysteries out loud.

The Tuesday Night Mystery Club

The Tuesday Night Mystery Club host takes on a new mystery story every episode and together with a guest, discusses the book and tries to put together the clues and solve the mystery. I only just recently found this podcast and am really enjoying their discussion of Death on the Nile. Having recently seen the movie, it’s fun to go back and realize how different the characters were in the book and it’s fun to hear these podcasters try to figure out the mystery when I already know the solution!

The Agatha Murder Mystery Radio Hour

The Agatha Murder Mystery Radio Hour is so much fun! If you’ve ever enjoyed those books of short whodunnits that tell you a short story and you have to figure out who did the crime by the clues given in the story, you’ll love this podcast. Each episode, you’re told an original mystery story and you get to follow the clues given you to solve it yourself before listening to the solution episode. So fun and such a creative idea.

The Great Detectives of Old Time Radio

Just when we think podcasting is such a modern and new thing, we realize it’s just old time radio rebranded. The Great Detectives of Old Time Radio features 6 new episodes every week! Yes, every day except Sunday, you can listen to a rebroadcast of one of these old detective stories. I’m always entertained by this podcast.

All About Agatha

This podcast is a no brainer for fans of Agatha Christie! The host of All About Agatha never runs short on topics surrounding our favorite mystery author. She interviews mystery writers and discusses all kinds of topics from specific Christie books to more modern novel along the same vein. This is a can’t miss for fans!

If you have suggestions for more mystery podcasts that aren’t true crime, I’d love to hear about them! Send me a letter to the editor and give me the scoop.

Until next time,
